The COVID-19 global pandemic has gripped the world and has forced the shutting down of markets, educational institutes, business establishments across India. Owing to the government imposed 21-day lockdown, most business and corporate establishments have their employees working from home. However, India's experience of the work-from-home (WFH) culture is quite new.
Rohini Singh, Director, Deutsche bank has been working for 18 years but this is the first time that she is working from home, owing to the 21-day lockdown imposed by the government to fight COVID-19. She shared her experience of working from home with NDTV,
First 2 days were a little difficult to get used to working from home but I'm gradually getting used to it. In fact, I never thought it could be so productive.
Rohini, a mother of 8-year-old twins, is also enjoying spending quality time with her family along with the work.
First two days you feel a little edgy, a little agitated and not fully comfortable. But I think once I got my discipline, routine and infrastructure up and running, it has been very productive for me. And I think the extension of that is also getting the entire house discipline right, be it the kids or the staff. So I think now it's working pretty well, added Rohini.
WFH is a new reality that companies and lakhs of individuals around India are slowly getting used to. But staying at home during a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus is not just for those who work.
When it comes to the children, this lock down was initially an extended vacation, but now it is about ensuring that they have something to keep them busy. Udai Singh Dungurpur, a grade-10 student is happy to be back from his boarding school in Dehradun, but is keeping himself busy. Udai shared with NDTV,
Although I miss school, my friends and I'm not able to play sports but I'm trying to make the best of the worst situation. I have been spending my time playing the piano, reading books which I might not usually get time for, because of school. Actually digital classes are more productive than I thought. Teachers are prepared for the class, they have worksheets and everything ready, so they don't waste time during the class drawing on boards.
The total lockdown of 21-days is to aid social distancing to help control the spread of COVID-19. People have adopted various innovative ways in which work, schooling, exercising and socialising is all happening from home. The best way India can come together to fight against COVID 19 is by staying at home.
